In the “Ándale” segment of the season three premiere of Euphoria (HBO Max), Ithaka Darin Pappas, also known as the artist Ithaka (Escape From The City Of Angels, So Get Up), plays an asylum seeker named “Pacorro” in two sequences. One scene takes place in Chihuahua, Mexico, where Pacorro and his friends help Rue (Zendaya), a drug dealer, dig her Jeep out of quicksand. “More strength!” Pacorro yells at Rue to get the Jeep moving. Suddenly, she breaks free and politely greets Pacorro and his group, “Thank you, my friends!”, as she speeds toward the US border with a bag full of drugs. The next day (in the same episode), across the border in Agua Dulce, Texas, Rue (Zendaya) and Pacorro (Ithaka) meet again on a Greyhound bus headed to Los Angeles. “Oh, shit, what happened?” she greets him. Pacarro responds, “Hey USA!” (his nickname for Rue and American), and the entire bus full of migrants erupts in cheers of joy: “USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!” Ithaka Darin Pappas is a Greek-American multidisciplinary artist, lyricist, and singer. His song “Escape From The City of Angels” (featuring Marta Dias) appeared in Antoine Fuqua’s film “Replacement Killers,” and his 1992 spoken word poem “So Get Up” is considered the most remixed a cappella spoken word in music history.
